The Weather Channel looks to trend with Winter Storm “YOLO”

Hopefully, this winter will be a mild one, but if the numbers of winter storms reaches the mid twenties The Weather Channel stands ready to capture the social media race and most likely bring in a few extra dollars along the way.  Included in the list of the Weather Channel’s 26 possible names for the 2015-2016 winter season’s storms is “YOLO”.




Unlike most storms that obtain their names by national weather centers, winter storm don’t have official names. Since 2012, The Weather Channel has been naming storms that are social media-friendly. The storm names must be short, catchy, and easy to hashtag.  Come up with the best social media-friendly name and as the name trends, the network see the gains.
